Nigeria’s U-20 side, the Flying Eagles lost 2-0 to Brazil in their last group game at the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup in La Plata on Saturday night.

Ladan Bosso’s side dropped to third place in the group on goal difference.

Brazil extended their record against the West Africans to five wins and one draw

The Flying Eagles started the game in style, passing the ball around with confidence.

Jude Sunday came close to scoring the game’s opening goal in the eighth minute, but his spectacular volley hit the crossbar.

Brazil took the lead in the 43rd minute through Jean Pedroso.

The Flying Eagles were caught flatfooted in first half stoppage time, with Marquinhos firing past Chijioke Aniagboso.

Brazil were in total control of the game after the break but failed to add to their lead.

Substitute Haliru Sarki twice came close to reducing the deficit 15 minutes from time, but his effort was tipped to the woodwork by Brazil goalkeeper, Mycael.

Mycael also denied Sarki five minutes later.

The Flying Eagles will know their Round of 16 opponent when the group stage matches are concluded on Sunday.
