The Presidential Election Petition Court has resumed hearing the petitions challenging the outcome of the 2023 presidential election.
The petitions are of the presidential candidates of the Labour Party, LP, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and the Allied People’s Movement, APM.
The hearing began with President Bola Tinubu through his Counsel, Wole Olanipekun, who made a reference to the Supreme Court’s decision of Friday, 26th May, that dismissed PDP’s case on the double nomination.
Olanipekun is seeking to know if the decision of the Apex Court doesn’t knock off the case of the APM, which is also challenging the All Progressives Congress’s victory on the grounds of using a placeholder, Kabir Masari, for Kashim Shettima.
However, in response, S.A.T. Abubakar, counsel to APM, said the party is yet to get a copy of the judgement from the Apex Court.
Abubakar stated that the APM would act appropriately as soon as it gets a copy of the judgment to know the implication of the Apex Court’s decision.
The APM’s lawyer further applied to the court to adjourn the hearing of the petition till Friday, 2nd June, to enable him to apply to the Supreme Court for a Certified True Copy of the judgment on Shettima’s double nomination.
The Court granted his request and adjourned APM’s hearing to 2nd June.
Meanwhile, the Court will continue hearing petitions from the PDP and the LP, respectively.
