No fewer than 40 bills were passed into law by the Taraba State House of Assembly in the just concluded 9th State House of Assembly.
The speaker of the House, John Kizito Bonzina, made the confirmation on Wednesday during the valedictory session of the House, which took place at the hallowed chamber of the assembly in Jalingo, the state capital.
The bills, according to him, were given accelerated passage in order to ensure good governance and herald the much-desired growth of the state.
Bonzina said: “During the over 700 seats of the Taraba State 9th Assembly, we passed 40 bills that are for the interest and good governance of Taraba State.”
The bills, he further clarified, consisted of legislative and executive orders “meant for the good governance of our dear state.”
The bills listed as having been processed and passed into law by the members include Taraba State Appropriation Law No. 01 of 2019 and Kidnapping and Abduction Prohibition (Amendment) Law No. 2 of 2019.
Others are Taraba State Political and Public Office Holders (Remuneration and Other Benefits) (Amendment No. 4) Law, No. 5 of 2019; State Contributory Health Insurance Agency Law, No. 6 of 2019; State Agency for Water Sanitation Services Law, No. 7 of 2019; and State Supplementary Appropriation Law, No. 8 of 2019, to mention but a few.
While paying farewell to old members, Bonzina implored the newly elected members to eschew acts capable of igniting friction between the executive and legislative arms of the government.
A request by Governor Agbu Kefas for the dissolution of the 9th Assembly following the expiration of its tenure was read on the floor of the house by the speaker.
