Nimo community in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State has resolved a lingering land dispute among indigenes of the community, which has caused several youth revolts.
The community leadership summoned all indigenes of the community both male and female to its community square to resolve the dispute at the weekend.
Some youths of the community have been protesting the sale of a part of a disputed land by its leadership and allocating the same as Obodo Oma Estate.
The youths said the land which was the proceeds of a conquest many decades back by their forefathers should be left as an inheritance to the coming generation.
But the community, led by its President General, Ekenenna Okafor-Omabu, and the traditional ruler of the community, Onowu Ike Oliobi who summoned the meeting inspected the land, before arriving at the community square, where it explained the decision to designate the land as an estate.
Former commissioner for justice and attorney general of Anambra State, Peter Afuba, (SAN) who briefed the community said that it was the agreement of the community to use a part of the land as an estate while explaining that only indigenes of Nimo were being sold plots in land and at a discounted rate.
He further clarified that the essence was to bring development to the community, instead of leaving the land to lie fallow, when many people may be needing them for development.
Speaking on behalf of the youths, Dr Valentine Ike Oliobi, urged the trustees of the land to carry the youths of the community along in their decisions to avoid unnecessary skirmishes.
