The people of Ilaje communities in Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State, where Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the Deputy Governor of the state hailed from, on Tuesday raised the alarm over an alleged plot to impeach him from office.

According to the kinsmen of the deputy governor, there have been moves to fabricate unfounded allegations against Aiyedatiwa in order to prepare the grounds for his impeachment.

While describing the recent developments in the state as part of a coordinated effort to remove Aiyedatiwa from office, the group called on Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu to caution those behind the plot as it could strain the relationship between him and the people of Ilaje.

The group urged Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu to issue a warning to those behind the conspiracy, as it labelled the recent events in the state “part of a coordinated effort to remove Aiyedatiwa from office.”

In a letter to the governor, the group maintained that the plot was an effort to get around the constitution’s provision that Aiyedatiwa serve as acting governor when the governor is absent.

There had been allegations of domestic abuse against the Deputy Governor, which the Deputy Executive Administrator of the group, Ola Judah Ajidibo, described as false and intended to use against Aiyedatiwa as an impeachable offence.

While calling for an urgent investigation into the matter as well as relevant authorities to take action to prevent the Deputy Governor’s impeachment, the group urged the people of Ondo State to remain vigilant and resist any attempt to subvert the democratic process.

With the development seeming to have the potential to cause significant political instability in the state in the coming days, the group expressed concern that the allegation was designed to ruin Aiyedatiwa’s reputation and distract him from performing his duties.

“We have confirmed that the allegations of domestic abuse by the Deputy Governor of his beloved wife, Mrs. Oluwaseun Aiyedatiwa, is a fabrication from the pit of hell and designed to generate an impeachable offence since there is no other ploy that the plotters could employ. Hon. Aiyedatiwa could not be accused of financial impropriety, of being unfaithful to his wife, or of generally not living a disciplined life.

“Furthermore, he has been a man of proven absolute loyalty to Your Excellency, hence the resort to crafting domestic abuse allegations. We also know that based on your own knowledge of your Deputy, and interactions with him and his wife, you will easily give short shrift to such ridiculous allegations.”
