The Oluwo of Ijeja, Abeokuta, Ogun State, Chief Aremu Bamgboye, has told critics of Governor Dapo Abiodun to allow the governor to take his time in choosing competent individuals into his cabinet.

Bamgboye, who is popularly known as Ajiki-Olu, said the people of the State voted for Abiodun because they were confident that he would not let them down in his second term.

For this reason, the community head advised that the governor should not be pushed into making hasty decisions about who would be his Commissioners and Special Advisers.

In a chat with DAILY POST in Abeokuta, the Oluwo condemned those criticising Abiodun for having not appointed his Commissioners barely two weeks after he was resworn into office.

According to him, Abiodun needs to be meticulous in putting the right pegs in the right holes so as to avoid errors that could cause him a failure in his second term.

His words: “Choosing cabinet members is not as easy as many think it is. One must not be in a hurry to choose those who would hold critical positions in one’s government.

“Sometimes, the people you love and those lobbying for positions may not be qualified for the positions. So, choosing them based on political or tribal sentiments may spell doom for everybody.

“Dapo Abiodun fulfilled his promise in the first term, and this made the people believe that he would do more in the second term, which made them to vote for him; especially when there was no one else better than him to rule the State in the last election.”

Bamgboye noted that President Bola Tinubu, just like Abiodun, is also taking his time to appoint his Ministers, saying this is an attestation that care must be taken before deciding who to work with, especially when there are many people jostling for offices.

“Governor Abiodun has had a lot of experience, which is why he must carefully look at the right post for each individual to hold. There is still time.

“What I’m really sure about is that the Governor knows the candidates for each position, he just needs a little time to scrutinise them. This second term will be better than the first one, I have this feeling. But we must have a lot of patience,” he said.

DAILY POST reports that Tinubu, Abiodun and all the newly inaugurated governors now have until their first 60 days in office to submit the list of their appointees to the legislators.
