Three medical students have been declared missing following the capsize of a speedboat transporting them and 11 other students on a trip on June 24 at a resort in Calabar, Cross River state.

The medical students under the aegis of the Nigeria Medical Students Association (NIMSA) came from universities across the country to attend the NiMSA annual Health Week in Calabar. The students reportedly traveled to the Marina Resort for a boat tour in an effort to get a feel for the city.

Sadly, the boat capsized during the cruise Three students are still missing, even though eleven classmates have been saved.

The state’s governor, Bassey Otu has commissioned an investigation into the boat accident that took place at the well-known Marina Resort in the state’s capital of Calabar.

The governor expressed regret that three of the medical students, who were in Calabar for the Nigeria Medical Students Games, had not yet been located in a statement issued by his chief press secretary, Emmanuel Ogbeche.

The governor tasked local villages, security and rescue organizations, and local authorities with the task of locating the missing students and reuniting them with their families.
