An Islamic cleric, Sheikh Khalifa Kabiru Qasimu Awwalu has appealed to Nigerians to support governments at various levels with prayer.

Awwalu who is the leader of Zawiyyar Sheikh Qassimu Awwalu Sabo Ibadan, noted that this is necessary for the governments to end insecurity occasioned by Boko Haram insurgency, kidnapping and other social vices across the country.

The cleric made the disclosures shortly after he led Muslim congregation to observe the two Rakah obligatory Eld-Kabir prayers at the premises of St. Gabriel Secondary School Alao Akala Road Sabo, Ibadan on Wednesday.

Awwalu insisted that Nigerians have the duty to support governments at all levels to halt insecurity across the country.

He explained that governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has assisted non- indigenes just the way he had done for the indigenes of the state.

He added that the Eld-Kabir festival is a festival of sacrifice and obedience to the command of God.

Awwalu said, “We thank God for the success of this Eld-Kabir. It is the festival of sacrifices. We have been praying in this place at St. Gabriel Secondary School Alao Akala Road Sabo Ibadan for some years.

“We the clerics are supporting the governments with prayer to end insecurity in the country. We have been praying for the government to succeed.

“I want the people, all Nigerians to support the governments to stop the menace of Boko Haram, insurgency and other social vices. The people should support the government for peace to reign in the state and Nigeria in general.

“Makinde has recognised the non-indigenes just like that indigenes. He has given us the opportunity like the way he gave the indigenes. Those who have lost in the elections and are still going to court should wait for their own time. The governor has won the election already. Those who are agitating should exercise patience.
