The Group Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, Mele Kyari has announced that the company would be constructing another international gas pipeline worth about $8bn.
He disclosed this in a video clip from the ongoing 8th Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries International Seminar in Vienna, Austria made available to DAILY POST on Thursday, where Kyari participated in a roundtable conversation at the seminar, with the theme: “Eradicating Energy Poverty.”
Kyari explained that the proposed $8bn pipeline would go through Niger Republic to Algeria and Europe.
According to him, the plan to construct another Liquefied Natural Gas facility with another train is to double the current capacity.
“We are building a $25bn pipeline from Nigeria to Morocco through 11 West African countries. We plan to make another pipeline through the Niger Republic and Algeria into Europe, and the potential is between $7bn to $8bn.
“We are also expanding our LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) facility with another train. And, of course, what that does is that it doubles the capacity of the current facility, and this is going to be made available to the market.”
Recall that NNPCL and its partners signed a Memorandum of Understanding last month to construct a $25bn Nigeria-Morocco gas pipeline to supply gas from Nigeria to about 11 African countries and transport it from Morocco to Europe.
On another note, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had pledged commitment to support a $5 billion LNG project by UTM to meet local and international demands.
