Reflecting on the recording process of ‘Maria,’ Korede Bello shared, “the producer, Drey, had been hitting me up on Instagram for a while about us working; impressed by his work ethic from his posts, I told my manager to arrange a session. We flew him down and made a lot of songs. One of the first songs we worked on was Maria“.
He went on to add, ‘the guitar you hear in the intro was me. That’s how the song started, I played the progression, and Drey laced the beats. Before I started writing, I knew I wanted to tell a story in the song. After the first draft, I felt the song needed something more, sonics-wise, so I hit up Altims to help beef it up because I trust his ears. After a lot of back and forth of ideas, we finally got it to where I thought the song needed to be. I was satisfied. Altims also mixed and mastered Maria.””
