A Nigerian man has sparked a debate on social media after he claimed that singers Asake and Rema are on the same international level, but only if the song “Calm Down” is removed from Rema’s discography.
The man, who simply goes by the handle Diamond, made the claim in a tweet on October 30, 2023.
He wrote: “If you remove Calm down from Rema’s song, Asake and him are on the same music level internationally.”
The tweet quickly went viral, with many people sharing their own opinions on the matter. Some people agreed with the man’s assessment, arguing that Asake has been making waves internationally in recent months, with his songs being played on major radio stations and in clubs around the world.
Others, however, disagreed, saying that Rema is still the bigger star internationally, with his songs having more streams and views on digital platforms. They also pointed out that Rema has been featured on major collaborations with international artists, such as Chris Brown and Selena Gomez.
