A Nigerian man has sparked a debate online after he shared a thought provoking story on the microblogging platform x.

He tweeted about how a colleague of theirs who is based in the UK sent only 3k to support a fellow colleagues wedding.

Adding that when he was asked by the group admin if it was a mistake, he replied by saying “It is the spirit that matters.”

He also stated that the actions of the man almost caused him to cuss him out but he had to hold himself back.

He wrote, “Contributions are on going for an ex-colleague’s wedding, somebody in the UK sent N3,000.00 Three Thousand Naira! The WhatsApp group Admin had to ask if it was a mistake. The guy replied with, ” IT IS THE SPIRIT THAT MATTERS”. It took a lot of restraint not to cuss out the guy”

Tweeps have taken to the comment section to share their individual opinion regarding the issue.

While some stated that the receivers had entitlement mentality, others stated that the man should not have sent anything in the first place.

Below are some of the comments,

@jeomaltd:  If you have to contribute for someone’s wedding without taking a widow’s mite then the couple need to go to the registry and say ‘I do’ and go home. It’s obvious they can’t afford their own wedding.

@adekanye52:  Una don ask if person wey de UK don chop?

@KoloKennethK:  This is sheer entitlement. Y’all feel he is doing great, so he should come & splash his cash But, no one puts in the sweat for him when he’s doing long shifts. The person that is getting married didn’t know the costs before they decided to get wedded? Una curse no go do shishi
