An Owerri-based baker, known as Maureen Cakes, has stirred mixed reactions following her disciplinary approach to teaching struggling students.

In a viral video circulating on social media, some of her students were seen kneeling while holding up turning sticks as a punishment for failing to answer questions correctly.

In the background of the video, she could be heard lamenting the challenges of teaching students who struggle to retain her lessons.

“When you come to work to learn and go home, practice! Then when I ask you questions, you fail.
Call me a weak madam, no wahala. But you must learn and know it. Whether the devil in your village knows it or not, you must learn and know it,” she stated.

Her approach has since sparked a heated debate. Many have argued that her methods are harsh and unprofessional, questioning the appropriateness of such discipline in an educational setting.

On the other hand, some social media users have defended her actions, viewing them as a tough love used to motivate students to take their lessons seriously.

As discussions continue to circulate, the effectiveness of her teaching methods remain a topic of contention, sparking debates online.

Here are some reactions from netizens:

@b_uniqu.e: “This made sense years ago because most of us literally experienced this but it’s not necessary anymore.

@rhodaayamz: “You’ve collected your money and you’re still punishing them ahn ahn? Or is the training free?”
