The Ogun State House of Assembly has warned Chief Adewole Adetola to desist from parading himself as the Oba-Elect of Idokunusi town, in Ijebu Imushin, Ijebu-East Local Government Area of the state.
The House, through its Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, issued the warning on Monday during an interface with stakeholders involved in the petition against “unlawful claim to a coronet chief and conferment of chieftaincy title.”
DAILY POST reports that the petition was submitted to the Assembly by the Ikunusi descendants against Chief Adewole Adetola.
The House Committee, chaired by Jemili Akingbade, instructed the respondent to cease parading himself as a monarch until all the processes leading to his installation had been concluded with the approval of the State Executive Council, led by the state governor, Dapo Abiodun.
Speaking at the Assembly’s complex in Okemosan, Abeokuta, Akingbade further emphasised that the respondent must work in concert with all residents of the community to foster peaceful co-existence in the area.
In the same vein, the Ogun State House of Assembly Committee on Public Accounts and Anti-Corruption continued its review of the 2023 audit reports on ministries, departments, and agencies, considering the audit reports on the State Primary Health Care Development Board and the State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA. The committee charged the agencies to ensure meticulous financial documentation and strict adherence to accountability and probity.
The chairman of the committee, Damilare Bello, who issued the directive during the audit review, reiterated that the committee’s objective is to promote transparency, prevent financial leakages, and ensure that public funds are judiciously utilised.
The committee requested the board to present its fixed asset register, tender board approvals, store records, and the 2023 UNICEF grant with the Sterling Bank account statements, directing that all submitted documents be duly authorised with the appropriate signatures.
Additionally, the committee demanded further supporting documents regarding other equipment, as well as a comprehensive list of areas affected by emergencies across the state during the period under review.
In response, the Executive Secretary of the State Primary Health Care Development Board, Dr Elijah Ogunsola, and the Director of SEMA, Olawale Shonde, assured the committee of their agencies’ readiness to address the issues raised and to submit all requested documents accordingly.
