The Patriots for the Advancement of Peace and Social Development (PAPSD) has called on President Bola Tinubu and pro-democracy advocates to disregard recent demands for a state of emergency in Zamfara State.
Dr. Sani Shinkafi, Executive Director of PAPSD and a former patron of the Tinubu/Shettima Campaign Council, made the appeal in a statement issued Monday in Abuja. He described the calls—allegedly made by unnamed groups—as politically motivated attempts to derail Governor Dauda Lawal’s Rescue Mission agenda.
“These reactionary forces are driven by narrow interests and ignorance of constitutional provisions,” Shinkafi stated. “Zamfara does not meet any of the criteria necessary for declaring a state of emergency or removing an elected governor.”
He highlighted ongoing efforts by Governor Lawal and security agencies to combat banditry and restore order, resulting in enhanced public safety and economic recovery across the state.
Shinkafi also applauded the government’s reforms, such as the approval of a ₦70,000 minimum wage for civil servants, which he said reflect genuine progress under the current administration.
He urged political actors in Zamfara to focus on unity and development rather than stoking divisions ahead of the 2027 elections.
“This is a time for patriotism, not antagonism. The collective good of Zamfara must take precedence over individual ambitions,” he emphasized.
