Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, OPWS, have continued their onslaught against criminal elements in Taraba State, neutralizing two terrorists and dismantling multiple bandits’ camps during a series of clearance operations under “Operation Lafiyan Jamaa.”
Acting on credible intelligence, troops, according to a statement made available to journalists on Tuesday in Jalingo, by the assistant spokesperson of the command, Captain Oni Olubodunde, launched a coordinated response on April 14 to reports of bandit movements between Mayokan and Bondogri villages in Bali Local Government Area.
“During the operation, soldiers engaged suspected terrorists in a firefight around the communities of Garbatau, Garin Hamidu, Bandaguri, and Mayokan. Two terrorists were killed, while others reportedly fled with gunshot wounds,” the statement read.
Weapons and items confirmed to have been recovered at the scene include one AK-47 rifle with a magazine, four rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a single-barrel Dane gun, 27 arrows, and six cutlasses.
In a separate operation in Ibi Local Government Area, troops on a clearance patrol were said to have targeted suspected bandit hideouts near Yamiri village in Sarkin Kudu Ward.
“Upon sighting the soldiers, the criminals fled, abandoning their camp.
Troops recovered a military woodland camouflage uniform and a Bible during the sweep, and the camp was subsequently destroyed”, Oni stated.
The commander of the Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the troops for their bravery and reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to restoring peace and security in the State.
He called on residents to continue supporting the military with timely and credible information to aid their operations.
“The 6 Brigade remains resolute in its mission to safeguard lives and property. We will not relent until all criminal elements are flushed out of the state,” General Uwa stated.
