Argentina’s president, Javier Milei, has said he has never seen a footballer who plays like Lionel Messi.
This could divide Argentina football fans as many believe Diego Maradona is their greatest.
However, the President opened up about his admiration for the Inter Miami man, describing him as a superlative player.
Speaking about Messi on the podcast Nuera, president Milei said, “I have never in my life seen anyone play like he does.
“He is a superlative player. I am a crazy fan of [Lionel] Messi. When all the local media was attacking Lionel Messi, there were videos of me talking about him being the best player of all time.”
DAILY POST reports that the former Barcelona superstar, Messi once came under heavy criticism a couple of years ago due to his lack of trophies with the national team.
He was accused of not replicating his success at the club level with La Albiceleste.
Messi struggled to win trophies for his country, losing the 2014 World Cup final to Germany and consecutive Copa America finals to Chile (2015, 2016).
At a point, he quit international football in 2016 but later rescinded his decision and won Copa America in 2021.
He followed that up with the Finalissima and guided La Albiceleste to their third FIFA World Cup trophy in Qatar.
Messi won another Copa America title in 2024.
