The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna State, Chief Edward Percy Masha, has declared that the party is determined to reclaim political control of the state in the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Masha cited growing dissatisfaction with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and increasing support for the PDP as signs of a shift in public sentiment.
Since taking over leadership six months ago, Masha said his administration has focused on reconciliation, party unity, and strengthening grassroots structures.
He noted that ongoing consultations with key stakeholders have repositioned the PDP as a strong opposition force and a source of hope for the people of Kaduna.
While acknowledging the defection of some members to the APC, Masha insisted the PDP remains focused and united.
He praised the efforts of the party’s Reconciliation Committee led by Shuaibu Miqati, which he said has helped heal internal divisions.
“We are committed to defending our seats in the National Assembly, holding on to our three senatorial positions, and expanding our reach at both the state and federal levels,” he said.
Masha criticized the APC-led administration of Governor Uba Sani, describing its “Sustain Agenda” as an extension of policies that have deepened the suffering of citizens. He cited insecurity in several local government areas—Kauru, Kaura, Zangon-Kataf, Kajuru, Lere, and Birnin Gwari—as evidence of the government’s failure to bolster federal security initiatives.
“Workers are on strike, hospitals are underfunded, and rural infrastructure is in disrepair,” he added.
He also accused the state government of financial mismanagement and claimed public funds are being diverted to lavish events tied to uncompleted or non-existent projects.
In contrast, Masha highlighted the impact of PDP lawmakers, who he said have delivered boreholes, classrooms, laboratories, healthcare centres, agricultural support, scholarships, and empowerment schemes to ease hardship.
On the legal front, Masha said the PDP is pursuing the removal of all 23 local government chairmen and 255 councillors in the state, seeking a court-led return to democratic governance at the grassroots.
“Our people want change, and the PDP is ready to deliver that transformation,” he said. “We’ll continue to hold the government accountable and present credible alternatives.”
He expressed confidence that the PDP would improve on its 2023 performance and reclaim the governorship in 2027, warning that any attempt by the APC to rig the polls would be firmly resisted.
Masha urged party members and supporters to remain united and hopeful, assuring them that the PDP is prepared to lead Kaduna toward a better future.
