The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, is on an official visit to China to advance discussions on key water infrastructure projects aimed at improving access to potable water in the satellite towns of the FCT.

According to a statement released on Thursday by Lere Olayinka, the Minister’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Wike is currently in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, en route to China for a series of high-level engagements.

While in China, the Minister will hold strategic meetings with executives of the China Geo-Engineering Corporation Overseas Construction (CGCOC) Group. These meetings are expected to accelerate implementation of projects targeting improved water supply across satellite communities.

The trip follows a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in September 2024 during President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s visit to China. The agreement, entered with the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) and CGCOC Group, is part of a broader initiative to enhance electricity and water infrastructure in the FCT.

President Tinubu had emphasized the need for practical, people-centered development projects and subsequently approved ₦50 billion for the expansion of potable water access in satellite towns such as Gwagwalada, Kwali, and Kuje.

Wike’s visit to China is aimed at ensuring timely execution of the project in line with the President’s directive. He is expected to return to Nigeria next week.
