1. Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, says he has cautioned the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, against making the mistake of 2023. Speaking during a media chat on Monday, Wike said the opposition party cannot zone its 2027 presidential ticket to the north.
2. The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) will begin aerial display rehearsals in Abuja and Lagos today as part of preparations for activities marking the 61st anniversary celebration, slated for May 23. NAF’s spokesman, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, announced this in a statement on Monday.
3. Suspected Boko Haram terrorists have attacked a base of the Nigerian Army in Marte Local Government Area of Borno State, killing an unspecified number of soldiers. Local and security sources confirmed the attack, saying the incident happened at Forward Operation Base of the 153 Task Force Battalion, around 3:00am on Monday.
4. Former Senate President, Bukola Saraki has been appointed as head of a 7-man committee to finetune modalities for the upcoming National Executive Committee and convention of the party. This was disclosed by the chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum and governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, after a closed door meeting that lasted for hours on Sunday night.
5. Former Military Administrator of Bayelsa State, Navy Captain Omoniyi Caleb Olubolade (rtd), is dead. He celebrated his 70th birthday on November 30, 2024. Olubolade, the Ipoti-Ekiti-born retired officer, died on Sunday, May 11, in Apapa, Lagos.
6. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday sworn in newly appointed commissioners of the Independent National Electoral Commission, as well as members of the Code of Conduct Bureau at the State House in Abuja. The brief swearing-in ceremony was held before the commencement of the ongoing Federal Executive Council meeting.
7. A Professor of Medicine and Consultant Psychiatrist, Chris Piwuna, has been elected as the national president of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU). He takes over from Emmanuel Osodeke, a Professor of Agriculture at the University of Agriculture, Umudike, Abia State, who was elected in May 2021.
8. The Group Chief Executive of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, Bayo Ojulari, has disclosed that the state-owned energy firm would resume oil drilling in the northern part of the country. This comes over two years after the past administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari launched the crude oil drilling project on the border of Bauchi and Gombe states.

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and the Director General of the Department of State Services, Oluwatosin Ajayi, calling for the immediate arrest and prosecution of the President of the Neo Black Movement of Africa, Olorogun Ese Kakor, over alleged forgery of official government documents.
10. Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted an officer of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Benue State Command identified as Simon Agbo at his residence in Makurdi, the state capital. A close relative of the victim who disclosed this to journalists on Monday, in Makurdi, said the officer was whisked away on Sunday night while with his neighbours.
