2. Speaking to journalists at his Abuja residence on Wednesday, the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Richard Montgomery, attributed the instability to regional spillovers from neighbouring countries.

Barring any last-minute change of plan, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is set to hold a crucial meeting today to deliberate on modalities for the forthcoming National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, as the crisis over the party’s national secretaryship continues to fester.
4. A former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon, on Wednesday, said that in spite of the imperfections in democracy, the era of military rule must remain behind Nigeria. Gowon stated this in Abuja at the unveiling of a book titled “Military Factor in Nigerian History, 1960-2018” by the Historical Society of Nigeria (HSN), as part of activities to mark the association’s 70th anniversary.
5. A member of the House of Representatives from Zamfara State, Aminu Jaji, has decried the “terrifying insecurity” in his constituency, narrating how “bandits fed newborn twins to their dogs.” He painted a harrowing picture of “how bandits attacked, committed mass kidnapping, their crass lawlessness,” which have left the communities in his constituency devastated and many residents displaced.
6. Six Nigerians have been deported from the United States of America, USA, having been charged with various crimes in the country. It was gathered that their deportation was in connection with a decision by the US government to deport at least 3,000 Nigerians, who had been involved in various crimes in the country.
7. The Department of State Services, DSS, on Wednesday, denied allegation that it kept the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, in solitary confinement. At the resumed hearing of the case, a DSS operative whose identity was shielded for security reason, continued his testimony as a witness before the Federal High Court in Abuja.
8. Two people have been reportedly killed and several others declared missing following a renewed boundary clash between Oku Iboku in Itu Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State and Ikot Offiong in Odukpani Local Government Area of Cross River State. The attack occurred on May 13, 2025, when armed assailants allegedly from Ikot Offiong stormed the coastal community, targeting fishermen, farmers and residents.
9. A 45-year-old lecturer at the Taraba State College of Health Technology, Takum, identified as Samson Philip, has been found dead in what police suspect to be a case of suicide. Philip’s lifeless body was discovered in the early hours of Tuesday, in his residence in Bete, Takum Local Government Area.
10. An ex-convict, Olayinka Oluwaseyi, has been arrested by the Ketu Division of the Lagos State Police Command for attempted robbery on the Mile 2 Bridge. The spokesperson for the command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Wednesday.
