Kebbi State Deputy Governor, Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida, has charged Directors of Finance to uphold probity, discipline, and integrity in the management of public funds.

Speaking on Thursday in Sokoto while declaring open a four-day training workshop on Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism, the Deputy Governor stressed the need for fiscal responsibility in line with the vision of Governor Nasir Idris’ administration.

Tafida said the Kebbi State Government remains committed to transparency and accountability, reaffirming its zero-tolerance stance on financial misconduct.

He commended the Office of the Accountant-General for its initiatives to strengthen financial discipline, which he noted had significantly improved the state’s financial management systems.

“The role of finance directors in safeguarding government resources cannot be overstated,” he said. “You must remain vigilant and proactive in preventing financial irregularities.”

Also speaking, the State Accountant-General, Allah Bello Ibrahim, said the training was designed to equip finance directors with the tools and knowledge needed to implement effective measures against financial crimes.

He encouraged participants to actively engage in discussions, share experiences, and collaborate with relevant agencies to enhance their effectiveness in the fight against corruption.

The Chairman of the House Committee on Finance, Adamu Mohammed, urged participants to apply the knowledge gained towards building a more transparent and accountable financial system in Kebbi. He also pledged legislative support for improved budgetary oversight.
