The Labour Party has unveiled 26 chairmanship candidates ahead of the July 12 Local Government elections in Lagos State.

The party’s state chairperson, Pastor Dayo Ekong, confirmed the development on Saturday in Lagos.

According to Ekong, the candidates emerged from primary elections held on Friday across 26 designated locations in the state. She clarified that the primaries were conducted in only 26 of Lagos State’s 57 councils, noting that the party would not be fielding candidates in 30 councils for strategic reasons.

She identified some of the areas where the Labour Party will not present chairmanship candidates as Ikeja, Surulere, Agege, Igbogbo-Baiyeku, Lagos Island East, Lagos Island West, and Ajeromi-Ifelodun.

Ekong also revealed that the party’s primary election in Oshodi/Isolo Local Government would be rescheduled in order to complete the list of 27 candidates expected to participate in the poll.

Among those who emerged from the primaries are Mr Seyi Ipinlaye, a former Secretary to the Amuwo-Odofin Local Government, who clinched the party’s ticket for that council.

In Ojokoro LCDA, Mr Oluwafemi Fadairo emerged victorious, while Mr Abudu Akinlola won in Ojo LG. Biola Samson secured an unopposed ticket in Oriade LCDA, and Dr Hassan Ademola emerged in Itire-Ikate LCDA.

Other candidates include: Mr Abiodun Adegun (Coker-Aguda)

Abdulaziz Awesu (Ikorodu Central)

Mrs Silifat Agbalaye (Badagry Central)

Adedayo Ashade (Ifako-Ijaiye)

Temitope Adulola (Iba)

Chioma Nzefili (Oto-Awori)

Also on the list are: Paul Ayanlola (Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye)

Kabiru Koleosho (Mushin)

Rasak Salako (Isolo)

Dr Michael Olusegun (Ikoyi-Obalende)

Lateef Liasu (Iru-Victoria Island)

John Akano (Eti-Osa)

Adewale Elegbeleye (Eti-Osa East)

Anthonia Oyeneye (Kosofe)

Adedotun Shoyemi (Agboyi-Ketu)

Olajide Akinola (Ikorodu North)

Bolanle Ajose (Ikorodu West)

Adetolu Akinnubi (Ikotun-Igando)

Gideon Adeniran (Alimosho)

Olayemi Olajide (Ijede)

Bolaji Oluriwale (Mosan-Okunola)

Ekong commended the peaceful and orderly conduct of the primaries, describing the process as a success for the party.

“The primaries were conducted successfully. I am particularly happy that the LGAs primaries went well in almost all local governments.

“They were free, credible and transparent. For areas with some issues, we thank God the security operatives invited were able to douse tension, and at the end of the day, the primary held.

“It was a great day for Labour Party in Lagos,” Ekong said.
