Fear has gripped Waje community in Danko Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State following Saturday’s deadly attack by suspected bandits, which claimed the lives of 15 farmers and left three others injured.

Daily Post gathered that the violence has forced dozens of residents, mostly women and children, to flee to the nearby town of Zuru in a desperate move to seek safety.

A resident, Alhaji Musa Waje, whose younger brother was among those killed, told our reporter that the entire community remains shaken.

“No one feels safe anymore. People are leaving because we don’t know if the attackers will return,” he said.

Another displaced resident, Aisha Bala, who lost her husband in the incident, described the emotional toll of the tragedy.

“We barely escaped with our lives. I can’t sleep at night, and I don’t want my children to grow up in fear,” she said tearfully.

Residents are urging security agencies to step up operations in Waje and surrounding communities, which they say have become vulnerable due to inadequate security presence.

They stressed that without sustained security deployment, the recent government visit and relief efforts may offer only temporary comfort amid persistent threats.

“We need help. We are not armed, and these people are killing us like animals. The government must protect us,” said Malam Shuaibu Danbaba, who lost two family members in the assault.

Waje shares borders with Zamfara, Sokoto, and Niger States, areas frequently troubled by banditry and cross-border criminal activities.

Residents said the porous boundaries are contributing to the recurring attacks.
