Alhaji Mustapha Mohammed, who has been pulled out as the Assistant Inspector General of Police in Zone Six, Calabar, has disclosed that the approach which helped him achieve success during his five-month tenure in the zone was the Community Safety Partnership (CSP).
He said the approach significantly helped to curtail criminal activities in the two states under his jurisdiction.
Speaking with journalists at his pull-out parade after 33 years of service, held at the Mobile Police Barracks 11 in Calabar, he stated that the CSP approach contributed to consolidating Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Jigawa as three of the most peaceful and safest states in Nigeria.
He explained that he initiated CSP as a strategy to bring affected communities together, enabling them to manage their security issues closely with the support of the police.
Mohammed disclosed that he and his team only launched operations against criminals after applying the CSP approach.
“You cannot ensure safety in any hostile area without collaboration with critical stakeholders, and that’s what helped us,” he said.
The former AIG advised the younger generation and his successor to demonstrate justice in all their official activities toward all categories of police personnel and the general public.
He stated that serving until retirement in good health and with a clean record in the police force has made him elated, adding that he has no regrets about joining the force to serve his fatherland, Nigeria.
“In whatever you do as a police officer, ensure that there is justice and have the fear of God. That is the only way you can succeed,” he said.
According to him, there was no crime committed under his watch that he didn’t know how to address or bring under control.
