Vaccine rejection in some communities in Adamawa State is making the state government uneasy.

The state Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, expressed the government’s concern on Thursday over increasing cases of routine vaccination rejection, a situation she attributed to misinformation, myths, and mistrust.

The deputy governor said at an event in Yola that the repeated outbreaks of measles are largely due to poor vaccination coverage caused by rejection from many targeted residents, despite repeated immunization efforts.

Speaking at the 2025 1st Bi-Annual meeting with traditional rulers on primary health care matters at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Farauta said non-compliance with calls for routine vaccination against any vaccine-preventable disease is a concern for all well-meaning people.

“Government is committed beyond reviewing our immunization campaign and the rising disease burden,” she said, urging all emirates and chiefdoms to establish functional structures that meet regularly to fashion out ways of correcting vaccine hesitancy among the people.

“I must also use this platform to challenge our local government council chairmen: leadership in Primary Health Care begins with you. Neglect, delay, or politicization of PHC services at the local level is not acceptable,” she added.
