The reason Real Madrid captain, Luka Modric decided to leave the club has been revealed.
Modric had on Thursday revealed he will leave Real Madrid after the end of their 2025 FIFA Club World Cup campaign this summer.
The Real Madrid captain will play his last match for Real Madrid at Santiago Bernabeu when they face Real Sociedad on Saturday in their final La Liga game of the season.
In a post on Instagram, the Croatia midfielder said: “The moment has arrived. The moment I never wanted to come, but that’s football, and in life everything has a beginning and an end.”
However, according to football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the 39-year-old decided to leave the Spanish LaLiga giants after the club told him they wanted to start a “new era” with younger players.
Romano added that Modric wanted to stay at Madrid but the 2018 Ballon d’Or winner had to respect the club’s decision.
Modric won 28 trophies, including six UEFA Champions Leagues and four domestic titles, since joining Madrid from Tottenham Hotspur back in 2012.
