Residents of Sheka, Mai Dile, and Ja’oji communities in Kano have raised serious concerns over increasing cases of street fights and drug abuse, which they say are being fueled by regular gatherings at the Kano zoological garden.

This concern was contained in a formal complaint submitted to the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, at his palace in Kofar Kudu.

According to the residents, they are deeply worried that most of those involved in the violence are young people, many of them under the age of 22.

A community member who spoke anonymously for security reasons described the situation as heartbreaking, saying it’s unfortunate that the youth have now become a source of fear in their own neighborhoods.

After receiving the complaint, Kano Emir, His Royal Highness, Muhammadu Sanusi II urged local government chairmen and traditional leaders to collaborate closely with security agencies to put an end to the growing problem of youth violence and thuggery.

In recent weeks, youth clashes, leading to burglary and phone snatching has led to loss of lives.
