Nigeria’s revenue collection agency, the Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS, has ordered the extension of its tax office operational time to the weekend to boost revenue collection.
Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Zacch Adedeji gave this directive recently.
In a statement by Dare Adekanmbi, Special Adviser on Media to the FIRS chairman, the move is part of Adedeji’s commitment to matching the agency’s customer-centric policy with tangible action.
Accordingly, tax offices nationwide are expected to open for business from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm on Saturday and 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Sunday throughout the month of June.
The service attributed the move to the surge in the company income tax. As the financial year ends on 31st December, firms are expected to file their tax returns by 30 June.
“To ease the process for taxpayers, enhance service delivery, and maximise tax collection during this critical period, management has approved the extension of tax office operations to weekends for the month of June 2025,” he said.
DAILY POST reports that FIRS collected 21.6 trillion in revenue in 2024 and set a N25.2 trillion target for 2025.
The development comes as Nigeria’s 2025 budget stands at N54.99 trillion.
