The Chairman of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) in Kano State, Alhaji Dalhatu Salisu Mai Jumuri, has expressed concern over how some students in the state stop strangers on the road to ask for free rides to school.
In an interview with a local media outlet, he described the act as dangerous and not safe for the children.
“It is very sad to see a student in uniform standing by the roadside stopping vehicles and begging strangers for a lift. This is risky and must stop,” he said.
Alhaji Mai Jumuri explained that the PTA is working with the Kano State Government to provide buses that will carry male students, not just female students.
“Insha Allah, very soon, the government will provide buses to carry boys to school, just like they do for the girls,” he said.
He also said that a special committee has been created to monitor students who engage in this risky behavior.
The committee will record their names, schools, and classes so that proper action can be taken.
“I’m calling on parents and guardians to take full responsibility for their children. If we leave this problem, it could become very serious in the future,” he warned.
He also called on the public to support efforts to protect children and help them get to school safely.
