Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has expressed outrage over the gruesome killing of two young Kano indigenes, Barhama Suleiman and Jamilu Ahmad, in Makurdi, the capital of Benue State.
According to a statement by his spokesperson,Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa on Tuesday evening, the two victims were attacked late Monday night, around 11:00 p.m by unidentified assailants.
The attack was described as unprovoked, deliberate, and cold-blooded.
In a heartfelt message, Governor Yusuf said the state is mourning the painful loss of two promising sons of Kano and described the incident as barbaric, senseless, and unacceptable.
“It is with a heavy heart and a deep sense of loss that we announce the killing of these innocent, peace-loving young men,” the governor said.
“Their only crime was exercising their right to live and work peacefully in any part of Nigeria.”
Governor Yusuf assured the public that the Kano State Government is already working with security agencies and authorities in Benue State to ensure the killers are found and brought to justice.
“This government will not rest until justice is done. We will pursue every legal and diplomatic avenue to ensure that those behind this heinous act are held accountable,” he said.
He also extended his deepest condolences to prominent Islamic scholar Sheikh Ibrahim Khalil, father of the deceased young men.
“This is not just a loss for one family. This is a collective tragedy for Kano and for Nigeria,” the governor added.
“No Nigerian should ever have to fear for their life because of where they come from.”
Governor Yusuf called for calm and urged Kano residents and all Nigerians to remain peaceful and law-abiding as investigations into the incident continue.
He reaffirmed the state’s commitment to protecting its citizens, wherever they may be, and called on the federal and state security agencies to treat the matter with the urgency and seriousness it deserves.
