Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has said impunity will no longer find sanctuary in any part of the state.
The governor, who made the declaration on Tuesday in Jalingo while inaugurating two critical committees aimed at deepening peace, security, and sustainable development across the state, said the Commission of Inquiry into the Karim Lamido crisis was set up to investigate the root causes of the conflict, identify and bring to justice those responsible for instigating the violence, and foster lasting peace and reconciliation.
Urging the commission to seek the truth and provide a framework for sustainable peace and justice, he stated that impunity will no longer find sanctuary in any part of the state.
Apart from the Commission of Inquiry, a Steering Committee for the Taraba State Initiative for Farmland and Forest Occupation (TIFFO) was also noticed to have been put in place by the state governor.
“Impunity will no longer find sanctuary in our state,” Kefas stated, urging the commission to seek the truth and provide a framework for sustainable peace and justice.
The governor described it as a structured and strategic response to regulate land and forest use across Taraba.
He expressed confidence that the program would enhance environmental protection, boost agricultural development, and reduce land-related disputes and illegal occupations.
Kefas warned that security challenges ranging from infiltration through markets, motor parks, and border communities to illegal mining threaten to undermine the state’s development gains in education, health, and agriculture.
Emphasizing that no meaningful progress can be achieved without security, he called for a re-strategizing of the state’s intelligence networks and deeper collaboration with traditional institutions.
He also proposed a statewide early warning and response system to protect schools, markets, and places of worship.
Governor Kefas further disclosed plans to expand the Taraba Marshals security outfit to include vigilantes, hunters, and community-based structures.
He pledged swift action against illegal mining operations and urged participants to offer practical suggestions to improve security.
