Members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ Warri Correspondents’ Chapel in Delta State has embarked on a campaign against violent crisis in Warri and its environs, with a call on residents to shun any acts capable of causing crisis in the town.

NUJ members matched through major streets of Warri, from its old secretariat at the Marine gate to Okumagba avenue and Okumagba estate, with the inscriptions on their T-Shirts, saying, “NUJ says No to Crisis in Warri.”

A former Delta State Council Chairman, Michael Ikeogwu and a member of the Warri Chapel noted that the recent media war by some ethnic groups has become a source of concern to members of the NUJ Warri Correspondents’ Chapel.

According to him,”Hence, we decided to embark on this sensitization campaign as we,”Say No to crisis”.

He pointed out that,”The memory of the Warri fratricide which drew back the oil backwards is still fresh in our minds and memories.”

“Therefore, anything that will take us to the dark days should be consciously avoided.

“We hereby call on the leaders of the various ethnic groups in Warri and leaders of non-indigenes to call their citizens to order and caution to avoid any statement, action or activities capable of threatening the prevailing peace in the oil city.

“The NUJ Warri Correspondents’ Chapel pledged to continue to support any programme and activities that will help in further promoting and consolidating on the existing peace in Warri.

“We also call on the government to continue to play its unbiased role in promoting peace in the Warri area.”

The sensitization campaign is currently taking place ahead of the inauguration of the permanent Secretariat of the NUJ Warri tomorrow.
