Prominent social commentator, Mahdi Shehu has reacted to reports of Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje’s exit as National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing it as “good riddance” while urging anti-corruption agencies to expedite ongoing cases against the former Kano governor.

In a post on his official X account on Friday, Shehu stated that whether Ganduje resigned, was forced out, or was disgraced out of office, the development is a welcome relief for the APC and Nigerians, referencing allegations of hidden dollar notes and corruption linked to the former chairman during his tenure.

“We will be eagerly waiting for the EFCC to continue with his pending case and that of his wife regarding the dirty land deal,” Shehu posted, calling on the Kano High Court to proceed with “full force and speed” on the cases against Ganduje.

Shehu described Ganduje’s removal as “Day 1” of accountability, stating that Nigerians are now waiting for “Days 2, 3, 4, 5, and the final day,” hinting at a demand for a complete legal reckoning for the former APC chairman.

Ganduje has faced longstanding corruption allegations, including the widely circulated video showing him allegedly receiving dollar bundles from contractors, a matter he has consistently denied while claiming it was doctored.

The APC and Ganduje are yet to issue an official statement regarding the reported exit as of the time of this report.
