Police operatives have arrested four young men suspected of terrorising Unguwar Matasa in Bajoga, Gombe State.

The Gombe State Police Command on Friday confirmed the arrest of the suspects, who allegedly stormed a residence in the early hours of Wednesday, June 26, wielding machetes and threatening their victim with death.

Those arrested include Manu Muhammed, also known on the streets as Bappa Charger, Auwalu Muhammed alias Yellow, 30, Ubaida Sani, 19, of Pantami quarters, and Hussaini Muhammed, also 19, from Madaki quarters.

According to the police, the gang targeted the home of 25-year-old Muhammed Ahmed at about 1:30 a.m., forcibly breaking into the house.

“They were armed with machetes and sticks, and they didn’t hesitate to threaten him with death if he resisted,” said DSP Buhari Abdullahi, the Police Public Relations Officer, in a statement issued to newsmen.

The assailants allegedly made away with a Haojue motorcycle worth ₦1.6 million, three Android phones valued at ₦336,000, and ₦134,000 in cash. But luck soon ran out of them.

Barely hours after the attack, officers from the Bajoga Division, acting on intelligence, swung into action.

Their swift response led to the arrest of all four suspects.

Police also reportedly recovered several items believed to have been used or stolen during the robbery; including the motorcycle, the mobile phones, ₦74,150 in cash, a knife, three machetes, and even a fabricated master key.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Bello Yahaya, praised the operatives for their timely intervention and sent a stern warning to other criminal gangs operating in the shadows.

“There is no hiding place for criminals in Gombe. We will pursue every lead and ensure the safety of our citizens,” he said.

The suspects are currently in police custody and will be charged to court once investigations are concluded.

The police also used the opportunity to urge residents to remain vigilant and assist law enforcers with useful information.
