Former Real Madrid assistant coach, Davide Ancelotti has picked Luka Modric as his 2025 Ballon d’Or winner.

Modric is all set to leave Real Madrid after the end of the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States.

The Croatian midfielder won Ballon d’Or in 2018.

Modric, 39, will join AC Milan on a one-year deal this summer.

When asked who should win the Ballon d’Or this year, Ancelotti said (via Madrid Xtra on X): “This year? Luka Modric.”

He added, “What happened with Luka Modrić? I don’t want to talk about the club’s decisions.

“Luka still has a lot of football to give. Maybe if we had stayed nothing would have changed. It’s true football is changing but Luka plays with his head, he can play as long as he wants.”

Modric is not expected to compete for the Ballon d’Or this year after he recorded just 13 goal contributions in 60 games across all competitions for the Los Blancos last season.

The 2025 Ballon d’Or gala will take place in September and the likes of Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, Kylian Mbappe, Ousmane Dembele and Mohamed Salah are seen as contenders for the award.
