The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has begun laying the foundation for a community-driven political structure in Sokoto State.
It has appointed Mainasara Umar, as the ADC’s State Coordinator for Sokoto to lead the state.
His appointment was confirmed in a formal letter signed by the coalition’s National Coordinator, Engr. Mohammed Shuaibu, and shared with journalists on Sunday.
Shuaibu explained that the decision to appoint Umar followed a careful evaluation of his leadership credentials, public service commitment, and track record in advocating for equitable policies that benefit all Nigerians.
“This appointment, which takes immediate effect, is part of our broader plan to establish a grassroots platform that will inform and educate citizens on the real objectives of our coalition. We are not endorsing any particular candidate; our focus is solely on promoting the ADC’s vision for a credible, transparent, and people-centred leadership,” Shuaibu emphasized.
The ADC has also approved the appointments of Hon. Abbah Abubakar and Mr. Muhammad Bimasa, who will serve as State Secretary.
Shuaibu urged them to prioritize public engagement and foster collaboration with stakeholders across communities to achieve the coalition’s broader development goals.
Responding to the appointment, Umar expressed deep appreciation for the trust placed in him and encouraged Sokoto residents to rally behind the coalition’s cause.
“This is not just about forming another political group,” Umar said.
He promised to assemble a dedicated team focused on results, saying their work would reflect the core values of the ADC and tackle critical issues such as rising insecurity, poor governance, and economic hardship.
