The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed the death of two persons and 10 injured in a car accident that occurred along the Ringim-Kano Road in Jigawa State.
The FRSC Sector Commander in Dutse, Umar Mas’ud, disclosed this on Friday, he said the fatal accident happened around 10:40 a.m on Thursday and involved two Volkswagen Golf vehicles. The crash, according to him, was caused by speeding and wrongful overtaking.
All the Thirteen people involved were from Bareda village in Ikara Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Mr Mas’ud revealed that during the rescue operation, personnel of the corps recovered ₦2,166,700 belonging to one of the deceased victims and a survivor.
The funds were promptly handed over to the victims’ relatives in the presence of the Divisional Police Officer of the area, Abdullahi Ibrahim.
He commended the transparency of the FRSC personnel involved in the operation, stating: “It is my pleasure to inform the general public that our personnel were involved in a rescue operation in the Ringim area on Thursday, and during the exercise, the sum of ₦2,166,700 was recovered.
After thorough investigation with the support of the police, all the money recovered was handed over to relatives of the victims.”
Mr Mas’ud reiterated the corps’ commitment to transparency and public service, while cautioning motorists against speeding and dangerous overtaking, which he said remain major causes of fatal road accidents.
