Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola has admitted he is “not optimistic” that Spain will take appropriate measures to fight racism in the country.

This follows the incident last Sunday, when Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior was again subjected to insults.

Three people have been arrested for racially abusing Vinicius at Valencia, while the club have been punished with a fine and partial closure of the Mestalla.

Guardiola, who spent part of his career as a player and manager in LaLiga, says he does not expect things to change quickly.

He said: “We need to accept diversity as a strength, like a human being, and still right now, we are far away from that.

“Hopefully it can be one step to getting better in Spain, but I’m not optimistic.

“I know a little bit about the country and I’m not really optimistic.”
