Ahead of the formal inauguration of the President-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, at Eagle Square, Abuja, there are strict security checks at the venue.
DAILY POST observed that as early as 6 am, most of the guests were seen trouping into Eagle Square to secure vantage positions ahead of the inauguration formalities, which commence by 10 am.
The security personnel from the Nigerian Police Force, the Department of State Services, the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the military, and officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), among others, were seen mounting guard in the entrance gates leading to the venue.
Armoured personnel carriers were also used to block most roads linking the Federal Secretariat, where Eagle Square is situated.
Most VIPs were brought in a bus from the Old Parade Ground to Eagle Square and were made to walk a few metres before gaining access through a single gate.
Invitees from the diplomatic community in the nation’s capital are already on the ground to witness the event too.
Some traditional rulers, especially those from western Nigeria, were seen walking into the venue. Some clergy were also seen trying to gain access to the VIP pavilion.
The incoming President, Bola Tinubu and the outgoing President, Muhammadu Buhari, are yet to arrive at the venue.
Buhari, who bows out of power in a few hours from now, yesterday boasted during his last national broadcast to the nation that he is leaving Nigeria in better stead than he met it in 2015.
Buhari has served out two terms of four years each. He said he hopes to relocate to Daura once he hands over the reins of government to his successor today.
