The Governor of Cross River State, Senator Bassey Otu, has appointed Mr Emmanuel Ogbeche, chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, as his Chief Press Secretary.

This was contained in a letter of appointment dated 6 June 2023 signed by Dr Innocent Eteng, Permanent Secretary General Administration in the Office of Secretary to the State Government.

In the first few days after his inauguration, Governor Otu has devoted attention to appointing key members of his government.

In the same letter appointing Ogbeche, Otu also appointed the former Vice Chancellor of the University of Cross River State, Prof Anthony Owan-Enoh as Secretary to the State Government.

The governor has decided to saddle top-notch security personnel with the task of directing security affairs in the state.

Major General Okoi Ubi Obono (rtd) is appointed Senior Special Adviser, State Security. Assistant Inspector General of Police John Abang (rtd), Commander Patrick Odiong and Achu Ben Olayi are to oversee security issues in the three senatorial districts.

Other key appointments Governor Otu has approved with immediate effect are Emmanuel Ironbar as his Chief of Staff, and Charles Ikpeme as chairman of Special Taskforce on Anti-Deforestation.
