The former Zamfara State Governor, Bello Mohammed Matawalle, has condemned the invasion of his residents on Friday by security operatives, who confiscated some vehicles from the premises.

Matawalle in an interview with BBC Hausa service on Saturday, lamented that the security operatives looted the personal belongings of his wives and children, including clothing materials.

Matawalle explained that the action of the security operatives was a breach of his fundamental rights, especially the right of privacy.

He further said most of the vehicles the security agents took away from his Gusau and Maradun residences were procured by him before he became a governor of the State.

“The security operatives did not only take away vehicles but took valuables and belongings of my wives and family members”, he added.

He alleged that the security agents took away the matrimonial facilities he purchased for the scheduled wedding of his daughters.

Former Governor Matawalle claimed that the security agents took away 40 vehicles from his houses.

“The security agents should display the 40 vehicles for the general public for judgment. Anybody who knows Bello Matawalle will know that I have been in the car business ever since I became the governor of Zamfara State.”

He further lamented that the vehicles the security operatives recovered in his Maradun country home were those donated to him by well wishers and were all branded with his images and that of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, adding that surprisingly, the security agents said the vehicles belong to the state government.

The former Governor expressed dissatisfaction over the action of the security operatives saying, “I have never seen the worst scenario like what happened in my residences last Friday.”

He, however, explained that he was in Abuja and nobody called to notify him that his attention was needed in relation to the issue, pointing out that all he heard was that the security agents invaded his private residences as if there is no law and order in Nigeria.

Matawalle said the action was a complete drama and lacked the fear of God, stressing that it was beyond the recovery of vehicles.

“The security agents went as far as impounding some items belonging to my family.”

The former Governor lamented that Governor Dauda Lawal should contemplate on the challenges facing the state.

“He should not create another problem by fighting me since he knows that I also have supporters who will not fold their hands and allow me to be humiliated.”

He said he would not ask the security agents or the state government to return the vehicles but would follow the appropriate channel as stipulated by the law.
