The United States of America tech billionaire, Elon Musk-led Department of Government Efficiency has announced that it has successfully deactivated 470,000 unused and unneeded credit cards.
DOGE disclosed this in an update statement released on its X account Wednesday.
According to DOGE, the audit of unused or unneeded credits has been expanded to 30 agencies in the US to kerb waste and fraud.
It stressed that when it commenced an audit of unused credit cards, there were 4.6 million, noting that more work needed to be done.
“The programme to audit unused/unneeded credit cards has been expanded to 30 agencies. After 7 weeks, ~470k cards have been deactivated.
“As a reminder, at the start of the audit, there were 4.6M active cards/accounts, so still more work to do,” DOGE stated in an update on X.
Recall that DOGE, with the mandate of US President Donald Trump in the last month, carried out a probe across federal agencies to reduce waste and fraud.
As of March 14, DOGE stated that it has saved US $115 billion through various cuts, including the US Agency for International Development.
Barely five days ago, DOGE announced that California, New York, and Massachusetts accounted for most improper unemployment claims in the United States of America.
