Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers:

1. President of Guinea-Bissau, Umaro Sissoco Embalo says the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) supports President Bola Tinubu’s efforts to reposition the giant of Africa. President Umaro, the Chairman, ECOWAS Head of State and Government, said this during a private visit to Tinubu on Saturday in Lagos.

2. The Taraba State Police Command on Saturday confirmed that two persons have been killed in the ongoing renewed battle in Karim-Lamido Local Government Area of the state. It also confirmed that no fewer than five villages were burnt down by the rampaging youths. The Command’s spokesperson, Abdullahi Usman, said the ongoing upheaval in the council is a “gorilla warfare.”

3. The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) and Association of Distributors and Transporters of Petroleum Products (ADITOP) have denied plans to increase petrol price to N700 per litre. The associations in an interview with NAN in Abuja on Saturday, dismissed reports of the alleged increase of pump price, describing it as speculation.

4. The lawmaker representing Edo North Senatorial District, Sen. Adams Oshiomhole, has said his opponent would have harassed him out of Edo North if he had lost the National Assembly election held on February 25. Oshiomhole said this at his country home in Iyamho, Etsako West local government of Edo State during the post inauguration/thank you party held in his honour by friends and well wishers.

5. A suspect, Abdullahi Isa, has been arrested by the police for allegedly dehumanising, locking up and starving his wife for nearly two years in the Maiduguri Metropolitan Area of Borno State. The suspect was arrested by men of the Gwange Police Division following a report by rights groups.

6. The Presidency, on Saturday, said President Bola Tinubu is prepared to steer the affairs of Nigeria in the direction that will position the country as the leader in the African continent. Special Adviser to the President on Special Duties, Communication and Strategy, Dele Alake, said Tinubu recognises that Nigeria is being looked upon for leadership, and he is prepared to step up to the challenge.

7. The crack among members of the Ondo State Executive Council has further deepened due to the absence of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu. Akeredolu is expected to resume from his medical leave on Thursday, July 6th. It was gathered that some cabinet members refused to honour meetings called by Aiyedatiwa.

8. Determined to end the sour relationship among the Igbo and the Yoruba living in Lagos State, Governors Hope Uzodimma and Babajide Sanwo-Olu have set up a committee to broker a lasting peace among the people. In a communique issued at the end of a meeting between the Lagos State government and Southeast governments, it was agreed that a peace and reconciliation committee would be empanelled to douse the increasing tension between the two vibrant groups.

9. The Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign has raised alarm over alleged attempts to alter the February 25 presidential election results of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to satisfy sinister motives. Manager of the Labour Party Presidential Campaign, Mr. Oseloka H. Obaze, subsequently, warned the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, against tampering with IRev as it concerns the FCT.

10. The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), has faulted the decision of the Federal Government on the dissolution of the Governing Councils of all federal universities in the country. The union said that the move was inimical and a major setback toward the growth and development of university education in Nigeria.
