US Senate Minority Leader, Chuck Schumer, a New York Democrat politician has reacted to Harvard University’s decision to sue the United States President Donald Trump administration for freezing $2.2 billion in grants.
DAILY POST reports that Harvard University recently sued the Trump administration.
The University bemoaned what it believes is an “unprecedented and improper” control.
“The consequences of the government’s overreach will be severe and long-lasting,” Alan Garber, Harvard president, said on Monday.
The suit, which was filed in the federal district court in Massachusetts, accuses the Trump administration of flouting the First Amendment and other federal laws.
The 51-page complaint is asking a federal judge to declare Trump’s “freeze order” unconstitutional and to instruct a reversal.
Reacting, Schumer, in a post on X, seems to back Harvard’s decisio, saying the Trump administration is attempting to destroy the University.
“Right on. Give them no quarter,” Schumer wrote. “They’re attempting to destroy Harvard.”
Last week, president Trump announced a freeze of federal funding after Harvard refused to accept demands that the administration has said aims to address antisemitism on campus.
