A fully loaded truck with registration number GGE 624 YJ lost control and plunged from the Pen Cinema Bridge in Lagos on Saturday, crushing two commercial buses and leaving the driver critically injured.

In a statement issued by Adebayo Taofiq, Director of the Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, it was confirmed that the driver fractured both hands.

He was rescued from the wreckage by LASTMA operatives and rushed to the General Hospital in Ile-Epo for urgent medical attention.

According to the statement, preliminary investigations revealed that the truck driver lost control while navigating the bridge, causing the heavy-duty vehicle to tumble off and land on two stationary Volkswagen commercial buses beneath the bridge.

“LASTMA officers, responding swiftly, extricated the severely injured driver and handed him over to officers from the Elere Police Division before he was transported to the General Hospital in Ile-Epo,” the statement added.

To avert further danger, LASTMA personnel immediately cordoned off the scene and diverted traffic, while operatives from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, swiftly cleared the wreckage to restore normal traffic flow.
