The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, has inaugurated a newly built domestic cargo terminal at the General Aviation Terminal, GAT, in Lagos.

The project, spearheaded by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr Festus Keyamo, falls under the purview of the Directorate of Cargo Development and Services, led by Mr Lekan Thomas. It is designed to enhance Nigeria’s export capacity and strengthen the country’s cargo infrastructure.

In an official statement, FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mrs Obiageli Orah, highlighted that the terminal is set to improve the efficiency, scalability, and connectivity of cargo handling operations.

Orah further noted that the facility comes at a crucial time, as the surge in e-commerce and agricultural exports demands a more reliable and secure logistics framework—one that reduces delays and provides vital support to businesses across the country.

She stated: “It also positions Lagos as a central cargo hub, which is expected to attract more national and international freight operators. FAAN plans to replicate this model across other states, including Abuja, Kano, Jos, Niger, and Port Harcourt, expanding access to modern cargo processing across the country. This effort aligns with FAAN’s strategic roadmap to decentralise and optimise cargo movement.”
