1. Nigeria’s Headline Inflation dropped to 23.71% in April, relative to the March 2025 headline inflation rate of 24.23%. According to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), the April 2025 Headline inflation rate showed a decrease of 0.52% compared to that of March 2025.
2. Kidnappers, who abducted the All Progressives Congress chairman in Ose council area of Ondo State, Nelson Adepoyigi, have detained the ransom bearers. It was learnt that the bandits pounced on the victims after dragging them out of their vehicle and whisking them into the forest.
3. Police in Dutse Jigawa State have discovered the lifeless body of an unidentified male adult under a slab that contained armored cable wiring. Police said preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased was electrocuted while attempting to vandalize armored electrical cables connected to a high-voltage power source.
4. The House of Representatives has resolved to investigate the circumstances leading to the mass failure of candidates in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME conducted by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB recently. This followed the adoption of a motion on matters of urgent public importance moved by Rep. Adewale Adebayo at the plenary on Thursday.
5. One herder and over 100 cattle were reportedly killed in a string of attacks on herders in two villages within Jos South and Jos North local government areas of Plateau State. The attacks, allegedly carried out by gunmen who opened fire on herders while they were grazing, highlight the fragile security situation in the areas long troubled by recurring farmer-herder conflicts, often resulting in the loss of lives and livelihoods.
6. The Federal Government is set to take the battle against terrorists and bandits to the forests. The plan is to reclaim vast forestlands from criminal elements. There are 1,129 documented forests.
7. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will depart Abuja on Saturday for Rome, Italy, to attend the inauguration of Pope Leo XIV as the new head of the Roman Catholic Church. 10. The police command in Anambra has launched a manhunt for suspected killers of a legal practitioner returning from the court, after securing bail for a defendant in a murder case. The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, SP Tochukwu Ikenga disclosed this in a statement on Thursday in Awka.
