A Chief Magistrate Court 3 sitting in Yola, Adamawa State, has ordered the remand of three people in prison custody over alleged killing of a prominent politician, Thomas Godwin, otherwise known as Zamfara.

The defendants: Godwin Chakukuyada, Ibrahim Bakari and Danlami Ali, were arraigned in court for allegedly killing the late Thomas Godwin last month.

The three, who were among nine people that the state police command announced last week as being in its custody, having been arrested earlier over Zamfara’s killing, were on Monday arraigned on charges of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide.

According to the First Information Report, FIR, tendered in court, the deceased who was on his way from Fadama Rake to his birthplace Kala’a was attacked by violent political thugs.

The defendants, according to the FIR, beat the deceased into a state of unconsciousness, after which he was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre in nearby Hong where he was confirmed dead.

Arraigning the defendants during the Monday court sitting, the Police Prosecutor, Inspector Emmanuel, urged the court to read the FIR to the defendants to enable them enter their plea, after which all the defendants pleaded not guilty to the alleged offences.

The court, presided over by Chief Magistrate Uwani Danladi ordered the remand of the defendants to enable the police to complete investigation and then adjourned the case to next month, June 19.
