NNPCL gives conditions for crude supply to Dangote Refinery

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited said the state-owned oil firm would continue to supply crude oil to Dangote Refinery on a commercially willing buyer and willing seller basis.

Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPCL, Bayo Ojulari, disclosed this in a recent interview with Bloomberg.

When asked by Bloomberg about domestic crude oil supply to Africa’s largest refinery, he said the plant has the flexibility, as a commercial entity, to import crude for its survival.

According to him, the Nigerian government is poised to move away from dominance in the private oil and gas sector.

He, however, vowed to improve the domestic crude supply to Dangote Refinery.

“First of all, Dangote Refinery is a commercial investment, so the refinery has the flexibility to import crude for its survival.

“If you look at it commercially, we have to do more to ensure that there is a balance in terms of the crude coming from domestic; we are working on that, and we think that will improve. But what we want to do is move away from government domination in private sector businesses. We want the private to have the freedom. If Nigeria is to provide crude oil supply to Dangote Refinery, it will be on a commercially willing buyer and willing seller basis.”

Recall that the President of Dangote Industries, Devakumar Edwin, in a recent interview with Bloomberg, said Dangote Refinery eyes 100 percent domestic crude supply by the end of December 2025.

In July last year, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu directed crude oil sales to Dangote Refinery in Naira.

The initiative was implemented in October 2024.

In April 2025, the Nigerian government’s Technical Sub-Committee on the Crude and Refined Product Sales in Naira for crude sales announced that the initiative continues indefinitely.
